Tasty English Tea Rooms
If you are looking to experience a real British cultural experience, then look no further than indulging in a cup of tea and a slice of cake. Our England Historic Cities offer a dazzling array of quintessential England Tea Rooms where you can enjoy different teas, divine cakes and elegant Afternoon Teas. Here are just a few of our favourite places where you’ll find an excellent cuppa…
Tiny Tim’s Tea Rooms (Canterbury)
Tiny Tim’s is the only traditional English Tearoom you’ll find in Canterbury. Within this luxurious chandelier lit 1930’s inspired tearoom you’ll find over 30 variants of tea and coffee to complement your delicious breakfast or light lunch. Highly popular Afternoon Teas and Cream Teas are available throughout the day too.
OddFellows (Chester)
Oddfellows is a charming, boutique sanctuary hotel found in Chester’s city centre serving up delightful classic afternoon teas with an added splash of odd. If you don’t fancy the classic try their savoury afternoon tea with mini sliders, scotch eggs and pigs in blankets with cheese and onion scones served with a creme fraiche and chive dip. It’s delicious. Don’t forget to enjoy the quicky décor and playful atmosphere while you treat yourselves.
If the sun is shining, we would recommend going into their Secret Walled Garden to have your afternoon tea. Here you’ll be joined by cheeky gnomes, oversized lamps, towering plants, and stunning blooms.
The Rose (Oxford)
Established in 1985, The Rose is renowned for its freshly baked scones, locally sourced ingredients, and exotic teas. If you are after finding a sanctuary from the high street for a couple of hours where you can delve into some sweet treats and beautifully brewed teas, then look no further than The Rose Oxford. They also serve up an excellent Classic Afternoon Tea and a range of Cream Teas.
Bells’ Tea Shop (Lincoln)
This family-run tea shop is situated within a Grade II listed building at the top of Lincoln’s Steep Hill. Pop in for cooked breakfasts, hearty lunches, or just a hot cuppa and some cake. Wherever possible Bells Tea Shop uses locally sourced ingredients; showcasing only the finest Lincolnshire produce.
The Orchard Tea Garden (near Cambridge)
Just a short walk, cycle or punt away from Cambridge lies the famous Orchard Tea Garden. A spot that has been an essential part of Cambridge’s history since 19897 when a group of students asked the landlady if they could take their tea in the orchard rather than on the front lawn as the custom was. The gardens quickly grew in popularity and over the years have seen many famous individuals drinking a cuppa, including Steven Hawking, Prince Charles and Virginia Woolf.
Today you can enjoy delicious cakes, freshly baked scones and plenty of tea while marvelling at the surrounding woodland and thriving wildlife.
Bettys (York)
No trip to the tea drinking capital of the UK is complete without a trip to a tearoom. And at the heart of York, you’ll find Bettys tearoom. Since 1936, Bettys have been serving up culinary pleasures within their beautiful interiors inspired by the Queen Mary Ocean liner. Your servers will be in tailored server uniforms, tea is served in silver teapots and there’s often a pianist to lighten the mood. Here you get to experience tradition, sophistication and beauty coming together to create a memory that’ll last a lifetime.
